Chiefly letters from various authors, editors, poets, historians, lecturers, publishers and other literary figures; photographs, 1879-1887, and no date Lawson and his wife, and their home in Yonkers, N.Y., and engraving of Lawson; 2 undated manuscripts containing genealogical notes; and 2 letters, 1 May 1841, New York, from Lawson's uncle, A[lexander] T[homson], and sister, Janet Lawson, Glasgow, [Scotland], re the death of President William Henry Harrison and discussing the indebtedness of Lawson's father and his decision not to join Lawson in New York. Also includes volume, 1859-1860, 1871-1975, account book recording travel expenses of John Lawson and his wife from New York to Charleston to Woodlands plantation, to visit William Gilmore Simms and to Columbia, Augusta, Ga., Montgomery and Mobile, Ala., New Orleans, La., and Havana, Cuba, together with household expenses, dress patterns, and recipes.
